There are many different types of post boxes including the royal mail GR, ER and VR lamp boxes. These can either be on stands or can be wall mounted.

There are currently over 116,000 red post boxes around the United Kingdom. As we go about our daily business we frequently walk past them without a second thought, taking it for granted that when we want to post a letter - the post box will be in a handy location nearby. However, the post box has been part of the British mainland's landscape since 1853.

Following the introduction of Rowland Hill's Uniform Penny Postage in 1840, the volume of mail increased and, as there were only a small number of Post Offices, we adopted the continental practice of installing roadside boxes to make collecting the mail easier.

The irish post boxes are green in colour and the black post boxes are the redundant ones which are not currently used by royal mail.

There are also pedestal poxes which do no require a stand and are free standing. Many customers favour these as they can have them on their driverway or porch without needing to insert them into or on a wall and can be easily moved to different locations.

Stylish pedetal and stand post boxes can come in either cast iron which make them very heavy and difficult to move or made in aliminium with a finely coated finish. The style can be ornate and regal or contemporary and modern.

There are mulrose, Elizabeth regina, finsbury or farringdon style post boxes which can be on a pedestal or mounted on a gate.

The traditional style huntington pedestal post boxes are very classical and are quite popular with stately home owners. These can come in black or red or in custom colours but often look better in classic colours.

There is also a very classic Tunbridge post box which is a pedestal post box and cannot be mounted on a wall or gate. These are very ornate in style and are similar to the Huntington post boxes.

Finally the Amercian post boxes are also very popular with British home owners with a unique pole and retro style. Either coming in brass or galvanised steel the iconic look of the Amercian post box with the brass handle is always a big favourite.
